Wall Street has truly given a review on front cover of Bankerupt “The John Grisham of Banking”. I am very glad to say all you their that this is the first time I am getting a book which is personally signed by the author (Ravi Subramanian). I can’t express my feeling in words but it’s an awesome thing to get the book from any author. Also I am reading this author for the second time the first one was The Bankster and planning to read If god was a Banker.

The Plot

The Bankerupt begins with the stressed president of America walking in his capitol building because of two teenagers killing twelve students and one teacher and injuring twenty of other students using assault weapon, this was possible because of the liberal law of the second amendment in constitution of America the right to keep and bear firearms by any USA citizen.

The story revolves around three places, Boston, Mumbai and Coimbatore. In Boston there is Cirisha Narayanan, a research associate in Social Psychology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who is very loyal and passionate for her Carrere. Cirisha is workaholic and non-corrupt character of this book. The second character of this book is Aditya Raisinghania, an investment banker of Greater Boston Global Bank (GB2) in Mumbai. A greedy person who for earning money takes liberty to turn things his way whenever required. And the third character is Cirisha’s father Narayanan who runs a business in Coimbatore. Aditya first met Cirisha at GB2 when they need 50 crore rupees for expansion of his EMU Framing business. After their meeting Aditya falls in Love with Cirisha and then they were married.
Then the book revolves with many other strong characters who where working at MIT at Boston, USA, Michael Cardoza, James Deahl and Richard Avendon who is a Research Professor of MIT, James Deahl and Michael Cardoza were the Archrivals. There is a turning point when Gun Manufacturer Lobby uses this rivals to make a research in favor of them. By using 2nd Amendament Clause of Gun Control of USA in favor of them. The Gun Manufacturer Lobby (NRA) approaches MIT Michael Cardoza to make research in favor of them for gun control where Cardoza refuses to research for them, then James Deahl accepts to research, this is where it begins a series of murder, deceit and treachery. Cirisha, Narayanan, Aditya and many other people get involved in this Mayhem and their lives are changed forever.

My View

This is a page turner book, you can't resist until the last page. The reader will never regret if you like thriller and especially if its banking thriller and written by Ravi Subramanian. As Subramanian is related to banking you will get inside loopholes, where money laundering or any fraudulent act can be done by any higher authority of banking. As always Subramanian has a good research before starting this book as you can get to know many things like relationship manager opening an account in Switzerland, the Procedure of money Laundering from Geneva to Switzerland, also the most debated issue of child labor is very well intertwined in the book. Also we can get to know that different types of researches are done by MIT Boston like on suicide. Overall I must recommend this book it’s a 5/5. You will never regret if you have picked this book.

I am very thankful to Thinkwhynot for once again giving me opportunity to review the books by different authors. Now this is my Third book from the Thinkwhynot. The first one was Land of the Seven Rivers by Sanjeev Sanyal, second was Keys by Santosh Joshi and this is my third book.

Some of the catchy lines which I liked are:-

  • Guns were back in business. Page no 3
  • Never mix business and emotions. Else you will be in trouble. Page no 25
  • What are auditors for? To write what we want them to. Page no 45
  • Every individual, however upright he might be, has one weak point, an Achilles’ heel. Page no 78
  • The thing about greed is that once it gets you in its clutches, it doesn’t let go. The battle that day was won by greed. The war too had to go its way. Page no 89
  • We Indians are genetically wired to be suspicious about everything. Page no 192
  • Rich guys don’t like to get hurt. Page no 198
  • In life, it’s not bad to be ambitious. Its criminal to have a team which always dreams of personal glory. Desperate for success. When their aspirations are not in sync with what we need from them, it leads to trouble. Page no 312
